Nicholas Nickleby, originally titled, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, is one of Charles Dickens earliest works, published as a serial from 1838-1839. The novel centers around the life and adventures of Nicholas Nickleby, a young man who must support his mother and sister after his father dies. The subtitle describles the nature of the book best, “containing a faithful account of the fortunes, misfortunes, uprisings, downfallings, and complete career of the nickleby family.” Nicholas Nickleby can be read online HERE.

I enjoyed the movie, made in 2002, and found it to be quite a complex and interesting story of a young man and his influences while trying to help his family survive 19th century London.
